Original Painting, ‘Everyone Always’ by James Temte

I wrote and recorded most of this record over the course of a week or so. Inspiration came initially from a book of poetry from Yevgeny Yevtushenko and his poem, I would like. This poem spoke deeply to me about this feeling of how many people live on this earth and how incredibly different our experiences can be. Yevtushenko writes at the end of the poem, “on a still green hill, when I first realized I am everyone”. This notion began to express itself all throughout these songs.
Ultimately I see the creative process as a mystical/spiritual movement that can have the power to teach me something about the world and myself over time. One year on and I am still learning what this album means to me, but I will say at its core this album was revealing the notion to me that the suffering of one person in this world is the suffering of us all. As I say in the title track, “We are everyone”.
Recorded and mixed in Anchorage, AK; traditional land of the Den’Ina people. Mastered at the Blue Home in Cantwell, AK; traditional land of the Ahtna people.
Huge thanks to James Temte for contributing the album cover with his painting ‘Everyone Always’. Another huge thanks to Davyd Betchkal for mastering this album. This album is dedicated to my father, GWO.
Hope y’all enjoy listening and looking
Cheers,
Gregg
